How to include marketplace fees in your 3D print price
Build a fee allowance and understand the limits of a simplified per-item pricing calculation.
A marketplace can charge several different fees on a single sale. Entering only a headline percentage may leave your price below the margin you intended.
Separate percentage charges from fixed charges
Use the percentage selling-fee field for charges calculated as a percentage of the item price. Use the fixed selling-fee field for an amount allocated to each item. If a payment charge is per order and the order contains several items, allocate it across those items rather than charging the whole amount to each.
The calculator uses one combined percentage and one fixed per-item amount. Combining percentages works directly only when the charges use the same price base. A fee that applies to shipping or taxes needs additional handling.
Check the platform’s current rules
Etsy’s official fee guidance distinguishes listing, transaction and payment-processing charges. Its transaction fee also applies to shipping and gift wrapping charged to the customer, and processing rates depend on the seller’s circumstances. Advertising and currency conversion may add further costs. Read the current policies for your account instead of assuming a universal fee rate.

Use the pricing equation
With $8 of item costs, an illustrative 12% fee, a $0.30 fixed fee and a 25% margin, the calculation is $8.30 ÷ (1 − 0.12 − 0.25) = $13.1746, or about $13.17. These percentages are an example, not an Etsy fee preset.
Percentage fees change as the price changes. Adding a fee percentage to the cost is therefore not equivalent to solving for a target margin after fees.
Treat shipping consistently
For shipping included in the item price, add seller-paid shipping to packaging and fulfilment. Separately charged shipping revenue is not modelled by 3D PrintMargin. If fees apply to that separate revenue, evaluate the full order in your own records rather than assuming the item-only result covers it.
Reconcile the estimate with a real sale
After selling, compare the estimate with the platform statement and actual fulfilment costs. Use the difference to improve the next quote. Sales tax, income tax, refunds and fee rebates are not calculated automatically. A fee allowance is useful for planning, but your completed transactions provide the evidence for whether your prices work.
